Harness Your Power

A Simple Self-hypnosis Technique

You can use self-hypnosis to program your subconscious to help manifest your dreams.

Self-hypnosis has been found to be helpful for: day-to day issues with increasing self-confidence, moving towards a healthier lifestyle and enhancing performance.

Specific applications self-hypnosis can assist you with include: weight release, smoking cessation, stress relief, academic and sports improvements, relaxation, and more!

Recommended times to employ self-hypnosis are upon awakening, prior to sleep and when you need a break.

It’s best to work on one issue at a time. So, wait to get results on one lifestyle change before starting another.

Preparation

The attitude you create prior to starting self-hypnosis is critical.

First, choose a goal that is in line with improving your long term happiness.

Second, it is far more effective to come from a place of love and approval of yourself, rather than dissatisfaction. One way to do this is to create a list of all the possible good things about that characteristic you wish to change. How has it served you in the past?

Acknowledge that you no longer need that behavior.

Next, reduce your goal to one or two positive statements that feel right such as “I am now achieving my ideal healthy weight.” These can be modified as you make progress towards your goal.

Choose a quiet comfortable place, such as a recliner; turn off the phone and all possible interruptions.

Set a timer if you have concerns about falling asleep, or the length of your session.

Self-Hypnosis Procedure

  1. Allow eyes to close, and take 3 deep breaths. Let out an “ahh” sigh sound to release tension as you exhale.
  2. Begin an intention. For example: “In 5 minutes I will open my eyes and feel calm, refreshed and relaxed.”
  3. Now imagine that you are descending a flight of stairs and mentally count yourself down from 10 – 1.
  4. Tell yourself that with each step you’ll become more relaxed, and allow yourself to drift into a deep trance.
  5. When you have reached the bottom of the stairs, make yourself comfortable in a relaxing place you imagine.
  6. Mentally repeat your one sentence suggestions on your exhalations for a few minutes.
  7. Vividly use your imagination and senses as you repeat your suggestions. See it. Touch it. Hear it.
  8. Count yourself back up the stairs and finish by saying:”I feel calm, refreshed, relaxed and awake”.
