Exploratory & Depth Work
When the surface isn’t where the answer lives — and you already know it.
Sometimes the most important discoveries aren’t about changing who you are. They’re about uncovering more of who you’ve been all along.
— Paul DiFranco, M.Ht.
Some patterns don’t respond to direct suggestion — not because hypnotherapy doesn’t work, but because the pattern isn’t where it appears to be. Something deeper is driving it, and part of you already senses that. That’s where exploratory work begins.
This isn’t about talking through a problem. It’s about working at a deeper level of awareness — a place where real shifts become possible.
Who This Is For
This work tends to resonate with people drawn to personal growth, self-understanding, and living more intentionally — and with those who simply sense there’s something deeper worth exploring.
It tends to be the right fit for those who:
— Have tried other approaches — therapy, coaching, suggestion-based hypnotherapy — and something keeps returning.
— Sense there’s something underneath the surface issue but haven’t been able to reach it.
— Notice a pattern, reaction, or emotional response that feels disproportionate to what’s happening now — as if it belongs to a different time.
— Are drawn to deeper self-understanding and want to work at a level beyond habit and behavior.
Occasionally, clients come through a referral from a mental health therapist — but most simply arrive curious about what’s beneath the surface.
This isn’t about dramatic breakthroughs or reliving the past. It’s about gaining clarity and a different perspective — so the present can shift.
“People do not come into therapy to change their past, but their future.”
— Milton Erickson
How Exploratory Sessions Work
Unlike suggestion sessions, where Paul directs the work, exploratory sessions are client-directed. Paul guides the process with questions while you follow your own responses, memories, and insights at a comfortable pace.
The experience is typically calm and conversational. You remain aware and in control throughout. Nothing is forced, and the process unfolds at whatever pace feels right.
The goal isn’t just insight — it’s resolution. Most clients leave having done real work on the issue, not just having identified it. Where appropriate, Paul will also provide homework to support and reinforce what was worked on in session.
Depending on your goals and what emerges, sessions may include:
— Current life regression — revisiting earlier memories and emotional patterns to understand what’s driving a present issue.
— Inner child work — connecting with and reframing experiences from formative years.
— Parts work — exploring internal conflicts between different aspects of yourself.
— Symbolic and imaginative exploration — working with imagery, metaphor, and subconscious material.
— Life purpose and progression work — exploring what lies ahead.
For some clients, the most effective path isn’t suggestion — it’s understanding. As new perspectives emerge, patterns that have resisted other approaches often begin to shift — sometimes in ways that feel unexpected, even profound.
What to Expect
Exploratory sessions are 110 minutes — longer than standard suggestion sessions because this kind of work deserves room to breathe.
The session includes preparation, the exploratory work itself, and an integration discussion afterward to help you make sense of what emerged.
Most clients book a single session. That is often all that is needed. After the session, Paul will recommend whether any follow-up would be useful — and what form that should take.
In some cases, a suggestion session shortly after can help ease the transition and support integration of what emerged. Occasionally, deeper or ongoing work makes sense, and that option is available through the package below.
Session spacing for follow-up work is determined by what emerges — typically 2–3 weeks apart, sometimes longer when more integration time is needed. Paul will recommend the right next step after each session.
