Break Free from Fear & Anxiety

Fear is a survival mechanism. You need it to stay alive — it’s what keeps you from walking into traffic without looking. But for many people, that internal alarm starts going off in situations where there is little or no actual danger. When your nervous system treats a dental visit or a flight to Florida like a life-or-death emergency, that’s unnecessary fear. It’s a system that has become over-sensitized.

If you’ve dealt with this for any length of time, you know it’s not the event itself — it’s the buildup beforehand, the anticipation, and the way your body reacts before anything has even happened.

Most people try to solve fear by pushing through it. This often just reinforces the stress, leaving you exhausted and more anxious the next time.

Hypnotherapy takes a different approach. Rather than just talking about the fear, the work focuses on helping regulate the nervous system. By shifting the subconscious patterns that trigger your stress response, we turn down the volume on the unnecessary alarm while keeping your healthy survival instincts intact. The goal is to move your body out of a state of high alert and back into a state of calm, composed control.

You don’t have to white-knuckle your way through this anymore.

Real-World Applications

Paul helps clients across northeast Ohio resolve the specific interference that keeps them from moving forward:

Medical & dental anxiety. Showing up for procedures or check-ups with a regulated, calm nervous system rather than a sense of dread.

Situational fears. Navigating bridges, tunnels, or driving long distances without the physical tightening of panic.

Travel & flying. Shifting the experience of flying from a terrifying ordeal to a manageable, routine way to get from point A to point B.

Public situations. Overcoming the hesitation that comes with stage performance, public speaking, or high-stakes social interactions.

High-stakes exams. Walking into board exams, licensing exams, and professional certifications with a calm, clear mind rather than test anxiety and brain fog.

A Practical, Multi-Level Approach

Some fears are simply bad habits of the mind. Others are deep survival responses rooted in past experiences. The approach depends on what’s driving yours:

Suggestion work. For most clients, this is where the work happens. The immediate reaction is reprogrammed using focused suggestion and imagery. Sessions are recorded so you can continue regulating your response at home between visits.

Exploratory work. Occasionally, a fear is rooted deeply enough in a specific past event that suggestion alone isn’t the right starting point. In those cases, we go deeper. Most clients who need this already have a sense that something specific is driving it.

We uncovered something deeper that I hadn’t realized was causing the problem. After that, things shifted.”

What Clients Have Said

After a traumatic experience in an oral surgeon’s chair a few years ago, I was left with great anxiety over any dental work. Prior to that experience, I had little anxiety, at least no more than what I’d call normal. I found a dentist who used nitrous oxide, and for several treatments, I used it. I am a long-time hypnotherapist and have helped numerous others with anxieties and other issues. I’ve used self-hypnosis, but this time, I needed someone else to help me out. Paul had plenty of training and experience, and was nearby, so we set an appointment for immediately before some dental work. His technique was traditional, and very effective. When I got to my dental appointment an hour later, I was totally calm — in fact, the dentist said I did better than with the gas (nitrous oxide). He was skeptical when he heard I had gone the hypnosis route but was pleasantly impressed that it worked so well. While I was undergoing treatment, whenever any sense of anxiety began, I used the trigger Paul had given me and immediately became calm and relaxed. It is with pleasure and confidence that I recommend Paul DiFranco.”

If your fear is rooted in a specific past event, a prolonged or repeatedly stressful period, or if it seems to get triggered unexpectedly — showing up out of nowhere with no obvious cause — exploratory hypnotherapy may be a better fit. We’ll determine that together during your consultation.

Research published in the American Psychological Association’s Monitor on Psychology found hypnotic techniques effective for reducing anxiety — in some cases comparable to cognitive behavioral therapy and often requiring fewer sessions. Most people feel better just having a conversation about it.
